Move-in day from almost exactly (oxymoron?) a year ago.
This brings back memories of those New Town jitters and the reminder that moving IS NOT FUN. It’s cheesy to say, but I can’t believe it’s been a year since we crossed the CO border with our fatty Penske truck. What a year it’s been!
I caught a nasty cold/sore throat in early June. Hubs took good care of his feverish, cranky, greasy (but very beautiful) bride by serving me loads of tea with honey and making delicious HOMEMADE chicken noodle soup. And, he froze the leftovers so we can enjoy it for those days when I neglect to go grocery shopping (read: I never go grocery shopping because I hate it).
1. Lay prostrate on the couch, whining about everything and then fall asleep just in time to get out of helping prep dinner.
2. While you’re napping, allow the Hubs to get started by melting butter over medium heat in a large pot.
3. Snort awake and watch him add onion and celery and cook until tender (5 min or one Youtube makeup tutorial).
4. Then, he adds chicken broth, chicken, noodles, carrots, and spices. See how easy this is?
5. Lastly, let him bring the entire concoction to a boil. Then reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes before serving.
I didn’t take a picture of the piping hot masterpiece, but I felt the same way about this soup as I did when I got that giftcard to Sephora from my MIL last Christmas.
Pay no mind that it’s mid summer and I am still spring cleaning. A few weeks ago, I tackled our pantries. This past weekend was Operation Bathroom. It was in *dire* need of some spring cleaning. Just look at this fine display of disgusting:
My bathroom never quite recovered from my hasty flight home back from MN. So, it’s been looking like this for a while.
I dragged EVERYTHING out. Everything got wiped down, vacuumed out, scrubbed and sorted. It took me forever! But now I have order and it makes me feel so much better.
Also, I cleaned all of my makeup brushes using a water and vinegar recipe found on Pinterest and plopped them in a candle holder I got as a gift ages ago.
Underneath the sink got an overhaul too:
Hopefully I can stay on a cleaning schedule so this isn’t such a huge undertaking next time. It feels good to take stock so I’m reminded of how much I have before I go wishing for more.
Anyone still spring cleaning or are you running around instead, enjoying the summer sunshine?
Girls Scouts. I was one. I adored it. Here’s our troop on some field trip out in the unforgiving Alaskan tundra:
Hard core, eh? Oooh if only we had Pinterest back then, think of the crafts we could have busied ourselves with! Tweens nowadays have no idea how lucky they are!
And even though you didn’t ask, my favorite Girl Scout cookie is the Samoas, by a massive margin. But, truth be told, they don’t hold a candle to homemade cookies. What is your favorite kind?
Happy half-way through June! Eat a cookie to celebrate summer, how ’bout?
Yes. More. Seriously, it’s baby mania out there, I can’t keep up!
I had to reference my own blog (how precious) to re-learn how to blanket stitch, like I did for these mustache onesies. Speaking of which, those were gifted to these two cuddle bugs who I just recently met a few weeks ago, when I snuck back to MN without telling you…

and Madeline:
Oh, the cute!
Where was I? Yes. Baby crafts. Two more little bundles arrived in May and June, a boy and a girl. I whipped these up, using material I already had in my craft stash. As an aside, I’m still on a craft buying freeze that I declared over a year ago, you should be proud!
They are crude but made with love/ineptness.
for Hadley:
and for Jordan:
My plan is to get them in the mail tomorrow but I’ve caught a bad case of the Doesn’t Do Much as of late. Wish me luck!
I got mine at the local Rite-Aid when they were doing a 40% Revlon sale. Wish I would have had more room in the budget because they have a ton of fun funky colors to choose from!
2. God, I love this song by Gotye. Please tell me you do too.?
3. This version, by Walk Off the Earth, will make you love it even more.
4. Totally switching gears here, but Hubs and I have been loving this salsa. We bought it first because it was cheap, but now I can’t stand the thought of enjoying anything else. You can find it any most grocery stores, even Walmart.
5. Our garden. It’s adorable and still alive! Yay spring!
6. NAPS. Who doesn’t love naps?!?
7. When we ran the Bolder Boulder on Memorial Day! Whoa, it was crazytown.
We raced right out of May and into summatime. I’m totally stoked. Am I too old to say that?
