Baby Bump Update

Hubs made our first turkey, along with sweet potatoes and his Mom’s famous sausage stuffing.  I made a pumpkin pie.  I’m thankful for so many things, especially this year.  I’m so blessed.  I’m so happy.  I’m not quite so sure I deserve all of this goodness.  *sigh*  I’d better get on with this update before I start the ugly cry.

Now that it’s finally official – I’m growing a human – I’m sure you can’t waitto be inundated with all things baby.  Should we let the nonsense and self-indulgence begin?

Main scoop: I’m feeling good, busy and happy.  I’ve been dreaming a lot about our house and how we are going to raise a little family there.  I can’t wait to move in and paint, as well as try some DIY!  Other than daydreaming about paint swatches and new furniture, my night dreams have been quite the opposite.  Every night, I’m infuriated by some sort of interpersonal conflict and wake up exhausted.  I don’t know if these dreams are because we have a lot of change coming up in the next few months or if it’s the pregnancy or maybe it’s both.  But, my sleep is disrupted and pretty rotten.  I guess I’d better get used to being perpetually tired.  :)

The Science: Baby Center recap – 19 weeks. Bug’s senses are developing so he/she might be able to hear my voice!  I’d better brainstorm some intelligent things to say because honestly, I have pregnancy brain to the max these days.

Body morphing: Weight gain is 6 lbs, right on target.  I have a real bump rather than only squishy-ness (although it jiggles when I ride in the car).  I usually like to fold my legs up when I sit in chairs, but that’s getting awfully uncomfortable with my belly now.  I forgot to mention this in earlier weekly updates, but my boobs are huge.  Thankfully, they don’t hurt and I quite like that I finally fill out a cami or a shirt decently!  The hilarious part about it is that my B cup bras actually fit now – I haven’t had to go out and buy new ones.  I must have been in major denial pre-pregnancy!!  Sad.

Sexy stuff! Ugh, the nightly gas continues.  In fact, it hangs with me during my sleep and I wake up to uncomfortable belly bloat and ridiculously loud toots.  I could start my own percussion line!  I think the gas is also part of the reason why I don’t sleep well…I mean, how can anyone (including Hubs) get a good night’s rest with all of this nonsense?

Food drama: No food drama still.  I eat everything and too much of it.  Gulping water is still an issue and I need to work on that.  We’ve been pulling delicious goodies out of the freezer and cutting down on eating out to save for that upcoming down payment.  It’s going to be an expensive year, that’s for sure!

Exercising? I sound like a broken record, but I’m still running with Callie in the mornings.  I’m so thankful she’s willing and that I’m able.  Clara hasn’t been able to join us since she’s out of town for Thanksgiving so we’ve been taking it nice and slow.  That’s been really good for me, especially since I’ve worked every day at my new job this week where I have to stand for 4-5 hour stretches without sitting down.  I’m used to being plopped in front of a computer, so standing is hard work!

To Dos: With the help of my sister-in-law and two friends, I’ve just started working on my baby registry.  Let me just say, my Mommy friends have given me some really valuable advice – including Andrea right here on this blog!  I’m so thankful for it.  Once we find out the sex (in a few weeks!) I’ll fill it out more, based on nursery colors schemes.  I’m thinking grey and kelly green if it’s a boy or grey and citrus-y colors (like yellow and orange) if it’s a girl – even though both of those would be fine regardless.  I’m completely obsessed with grey these days.

And randomly: The Gap was having a crazy online sale the other night, so I bought two pairs of maternity jeans (boot cut and skinny), two maternity tanks, and one long-sleeve.  I would have bought more, but they were cleaned out.  Then, I got an email this morning saying the bootcut jeans are out of stock- phooey.  Let’s hope the skinny jeans work and I didn’t order them too small.  Right now, I’m still wearing my regular stretchy jeans from Old Navy, but I don’t think they are going to last much longer.  I guess this is my first official baby purchase!  Many more to come!!  :)

Until next week?

  1. The baby is as big as a tomato – 8-1/2 oz. Hugs. I love it that your house is really in good enough shape to move into without major renovations. That way you can concentrate on cleaning and the nursery. Take all the happiness that you can and pull it in – we aren’t allotted only so much. Happiness breeds happiness. Or Happiness breeds contentment. There will always be troubles and annoyances. We have to accept them as well. It isn’t that easy to be philisophical about the gas – HA! Your dinner sounds marvelous. We missed you at Grandma’s table. lv mamap

    • I missed sitting around the Thanksgiving table too, but it was nice that Levi called and I could hear all of the familiar voices. Happiness breeds happiness, I like that. It’s comforting to know!

  2. How fun! Paul & I were just asked by some other friends what our “must have” list of baby things would be….this was our top 5 (maybe you guys might find it helpful too?):

    1. Boppy Pillow. THEY ARE AWESOME. Works so well for feeding, but also such a comfy little spot for a nap when baby is swaddled. Great way to get a Mama nap in too, snuggling up beside it.

    2. Gerber thermal blankets. They are stretchy & soft & perfect for swaddling (works perfectly with #1).

    3. Soothies. Life safers! Nuf said.

    4. Baby Trend jogger stroller/car seat combo. The real tires on the jogger are much more practical than the little plastic ones on other stroller & the car seat is rear facing up to 30lbs, which is much safer. Plus, they are super afforable! A car seat class is also a great investment.

    5. All things Medela! They make a wonderful hospital grade breast pump (which is compatable with what you’ll use while you’re there) & all of there bottles, milk containers, cute little covers, etc are interchangable. We(heart)Medela!

What an exciting time! Treasure each moment :)

    • Shelby!!! I’m SO grateful for your advice!!! It even has links – this list ROCKS. I’m adding lots of goodies to my registry based on your suggestions. Thank you for taking the time to write your tips down, I couldn’t be more lucky to have a blog buddy like you!

    • Thank you, I think they’ll be a fun departure from my old color scheme, which was lots of warm colors, burnt orange, and chocolates.
