Spring Cleaning: My desk

I’m still spring cleaning, even though it’s the dead of winter. Remember when I was last motivated and cleaned out my hair accessories? Wait until we get moved into the new house, these post will come in mobs!

Although I’ll be moving “my office” shortly, I figured my desk was way overdue for reorganization and a some scrubbing. Plus, I tackled this on New Year’s Day and it feels good to start the new year off with a clean work space.

Ta Da, my office in the corner of our living room:

We bought the desk (Ikea) and the office chair (Target) the summer of 2011 when we moved into this apartment. I wiped everything down and cleared off what little tabletop space this puny desk offers. You can roll your eyes if you want, but I also cleaned the keyboard keys (a hand-me-down from Hubs) with a qtip and now they sparkle! The griminess was making me itch.

The mousepad is from HIGH SCHOOL. You know I’m 33 years old, right? I’d like to update it with a more modern fabric but meh, that’s for another day (probably never).

Inside that one drawer was an utter disaster. I wish I had a before picture but I went nuts on it and couldn’t waste time with picture taking. Now, it’s so pretty!

I sorted, recycled and used all old basket I had lying around to corral pens, cords, sticky notes and a few other items that were floating around without a home. I’m still planning to send out “holiday cards” but I’m postponing that project until after I am moved and settled into the new place. I bound all of the Christmas cards we received so I can update my addresses when the time comes. Hopefully I get around to it?

In a perfect world, I’d like my monitor and mouse to be white to match my keyboard and laptop (that I plug in behind) but these are all hand-me-downs from Hubs office, so I have to work with what I’ve got. I plan to have an updated post once we get my new office set up, but we’ll see if it’s even worth the bandwidth, ok?

I also picked up this daily planner (from Target) to start the new year off right. It’s pretty dinky because I planned to carry it in my purse but now I really have to write small…

I hope it keeps me somewhat organized because I do best when I write things down. Also, I apologize because I know this post might be snore-inducing for some. I get all weird and giddy reading about other people organizing and I figured a few of you might feel the same. In fact, this blog is dedicated to organization deliciousness if you want inspiration and didn’t find it here.

Anyone else start off 2013 with cleaning/sorting/organizing?

Friday Tidbits

Our New Year’s Eve was wiiiiiild.

We worked all day and then changed into pajamas pants, watched a movie and even stayed up until 11pm! The only thing I would change is getting an earlier bedtime.

I’m looking forward to 2013 – we get to meet this little baby of ours, nest in our new house and I have lots of blog ideas swirling around my foggy brain that I want to share with you. Cheers to a new year and fresh start – it feels good to reset.

Baby Bump Update

Now that it’s finally official – I’m growing a human – I’m sure you can’t wait to be inundated with all things baby.  Should we let the nonsense and self-indulgence begin?

Main scoop: All’s good in pregnancy hood!

Btw, the leggings are LC Conrad (from Kohls) and I love them. They fit me much better than the pair I wore in my last baby bump update. I wish I had them in a couple colors! The sweater is new from Forever21 (only $12!) that I’m hoping to get good wear out of it this winter before I get too big.

The Science: Baby Center recap – 25 weeks. She has hair and is the size of a rutabaga. I have no idea what that even means!!

Body morphing: Weight gain is 10 lbs. Technically, I didn’t gain any weight this week but my body certainly looks more pregnant bump-wise and I’m getting squishier everywhere else. Also, I’m busting out of my bras (har har) but I’m too cheap to buy any new ones for now.

Bug moves all of the time, especially when I lay down to sleep. Instead of just flutters and kicks, I can actually feel her little body pressed up against my skin. I can’t tell if it’s a shoulder or rump or head, but I like to pat it and see if she reacts to me. It’s SO CUTE.

Sexy stuff! So, I had two sneezing “accidents” this week. Thankfully, I was at home and could do a quick underwear change. I may have to get some panty liners to protect myself just in case it happens in public or at work. Sexy, huh?

I’m still getting up in the middle of the night to pee and my dreams are wacky, so sleep still isn’t a deep slumber for me. Oh, and leg cramps. I had them in both legs last night which is so uncool.

Lastly, I’m getting to the size where my lower back is starting to hurt. I think it’s also because I’m standing on my feet at work and have been bailing on my morning runs (which strengthens all of that) so it’s not a surprise that this new pain showed up.

Food drama: None, I’m lucky!

Exercising? I still haven’t run. It’s been a looong time. I should go on my own but I don’t like to run by myself. Pre-season track starts up next week and my running buddy comes back from vacation, so I’m hoping to get back into it.

I took a pretty bad fall on the ice last weekend, just taking our trash out. My elbow and hand are banged up and my butt is sore. Worst of all, it scared me so terribly that when I saw Hubs, I started to cry – what if I had hurt baby girl!?

To Dos: The nursery is REpainted! We used “Ashes” by Behr in both the nursery and den. I just have to do some touchups and then I’ll show you pictures!

And randomly: I snagged three maternity sweaters on clearance from Target! They are all the same style, just in black, cream and gray. I figured for $12 a pop, they’ll be a nice staple to build around and spice up with belts, scarves and jewelry. Target, oh how I heart you so.

Christmas haul

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE! What better way to celebrate a fresh start than to talk about Christmas still?

I know the holidays are supposed to be all about spending time with those you love and feeling gratitude for all that you have. But, I can’t help myself. I’m interested in what people got (or gave) for Christmas so I thought I’d share with you my Christmas haul, in case you secretly feel the same.

Last year, Hubs and I did a few gifts and dates (one of which we still have yet to go on, how did 2013 sneak up so fast?). This year, we pared it down even more. We budgeted $50 to spend on each other (for reference, last year was $75). Of course I sucked the fun out of “the hunt” and told Hubs exactly what I wanted, even handing over 10% off online coupon code for him to use. I wanted this set of makeup brushes and was willing to pay the difference out of my own spending budget since they ran about $65.

I got the travel set because 1. They were cheaper but still had all of the brushes I was coveting, just shorter handles and 2. Now, duh, I can travel with them, like my trips back to MN. They are also vegan (synthetic instead of natural hair) and so awesomely soft. Plus, they don’t shed like my old ones!

I LOVE them, truly. Thank you, Hubs!

Of course, Hubs wanted to donate his $50 gift to charity. Someone has to be the greedy one around here and I guess that’s me. But just before Black Friday, Gap was having a pretty stellar sale. That’s when I picked up a few maternity shirts and the maternity jeans that didn’t fit. I also snagged (on a whim) a pair of sweat pants and two pairs of socks for Hubs.  Buying clothes for him is next to impossible, so I assumed the sweats would be a bust. I had him try them on when they came, figuring I’d have to return them. Surprisingly, they fit (this never happens) and he’s been bumming around in them constantly. We decided that they would be his one physical present (all $18 of it) and the rest would go to charity. I’d add the pic and link but it looks like Gap doesn’t have them anymore, phooey.

Because Hubs loves furbabies, I thought donating the leftover $32 to the local Humane Society would be the perfect way to round out his Christmas gift. I know it’s not much, but every little bit helps. I’m proud that this guy of mine made some fuzzy life a bit easier and safer.

Still, I knew he’d love the socks and needed to replace a few pairs that bit the dust this year. I snuck them under the tree and took them out of my own budget because I wanted him to have something to open besides a card about the donation…

As well as another surprise that awaited him at our new house – reinbeer!

Besides the gifts we exchange with each other, we also draw a name on Hubs’s side of the family. We used to do the same with my side but scrapped that tradition last year because my extended family is so large (and just keeps growing!), as well as being spread out across states. For my gift, I got a $50 giftcard to Macy’s from my sister-in-law.

Me thinks new activewear is calling…or boots?

My MIL puts together a super sweet (literally) stocking for us each year and this year it housed goodies like hand towels, candy, kitchen utensils, a Willow Tree figurine celebrating my upcoming journey into parenthood, and a handmade wallet made out of duct tape!

My BIL Gabriel always surprises us with some amazing handmade gift. Last year, it was wine-infused jelly (which was to die for) and this year he sketched our portraits for a personalized notebook:

He’s a talented guy and has his own art blog here.

My friend Emily sent this snuggly yoga wrap along with a subscription to Yoga Journal- an unexpected (and very fancy!) surprise considering she has been busy moving across the country, buying a house and growing her own little human. As you all probably know, this girl has incredibly good taste and I’m stoked to have something she picked out. Plus, it’s soooo soft. I’m all about that these days.

And finally, my friend Tai sent us handmade goats milk soap.

God, I love her.

Aren’t I spoiled? What was your favorite thing under the tree or in your stocking this year?
