Baby Bump Update

Breaking blog rules: I know, I know. It’s illegal to post in the past, but I’ve fallen behind (and can hardly get up these days).  I’m large and in charge and so please forgive me.

Now that it’s finally official – I’m growing a human – I’m sure you can’t wait to be inundated with all things baby.  Should we let the nonsense and self-indulgence begin?

Main scoop: Whoa, this week was crazytown. I worked every morning, then hurried to track each evening. Throw in a snowstorm, a dead car battery, a 2 hour hair appointment, our 3 hour birthing class and frantic packing for our trip to Minnesota to round out this maddening week. I seriously fell into bed each night, some days without brushing my teeth or washing my face. I’m turning into a zombie and I’m not even a new mom yet!

But, we did sneak in a 32 week bump pic! WHOA, eh?

The Science: Baby Center recap – 32 weeks. She’s the size of a jicama. A jicama! I’ve only had jicama once but it was delicious so I imagine when I nom on her sweet baby cheeks they’ll taste just as scrumptious?

Baby Girl is crowding me now but I don’t mind since that means she’s fattening up and practicing her dance moves. You go girl!

Body morphingWeight gain is 12.5lbs (down from last week). But my bump is bumpa-licious so I’m not worrying about any weight fluctuations. I’ll be packing on a pound a week from here on out so this should be interesting…

Sexy stuff! TMI warning. I’ve noticed the tiniest of “crusties”, if you will, around my lady lumps. You know what that means: My milk is coming is starting to come in. OMG, IS THIS REALLY HAPPENING?

Food drama: No complaints! I’ve been taking Tums at night to help me sleep, but I’m great otherwise.

Exercising? Next week, I’ll do some next week!? *sigh*

To Dos: The only To Dos this week were to get my hair done (check!) and prepare for the trip to Minnesota (check!). I really wanted to shop for a cutsie outfit to wear at the baby shower my family was hosting but I couldn’t find the time and wore clothes I already had. Ah well.

We STILL didn’t pick out a carseat yet. Wow, I’m can’t get my act together.

And randomly: Hubs and I did hang curtains in the nursery!

I still need to hem them but I’m in love. I’ll be posting pics sometime soon (maybe?) once I have made more progress.

Until next time?

Get in my Belly: Pumpkin Pancakes

Hubs is known for his amazing breakfast skills and he just recently added these pumpkin pancakes to his repertoire.

Recipe stolen from here, but we skip the nutmeg whip cream and serve it with maple syrup. Although homemade whip cream is something dreams are made of…so maybe you should do it up right?

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/3 c Bisquick
  • 2 1/2 Tbs white sugar
  • 1/3 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/3 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ginger
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/4 c milk
  • 1/3 c canned pumpkin (Hubs adds 1 Tbs extra)
  • 1/4 c vegetable oil

Instructions:

  1. Whisk dry ingredients together. The spices alone are drool worthy.
  2. Beat together eggs, milk, pumpkin, and vegetable oil (the wet stuff, duh).
  3. Add wet stuff to dry stuff and stir.
  4. Cook in pan or on a griddle, using 1/4 c of batter per pancake. Wait until bubbly and golden around edges.
  5. Serve with homemade whipped cream if you are fancy. It also pairs nicely with maple syrup. Hot COFFEE makes them even better.

Your Sunday mornings will never be the same!

Baby Bump Update

Now that it’s finally official – I’m growing a human – I’m sure you can’t wait to be inundated with all things baby.  Should we let the nonsense and self-indulgence begin?

Main scoop: I’m happy and relaxed and loving my baby belly. *sigh* Life is good, you know?

The Science: Baby Center recap – 31 weeks. She’s moving A LOT and she is strong. She pushes and stretches and ninja kicks me. I can feel her squeezing and reaching out to the sides of my belly! It’s the best feeling ever, even at 4.30am. I LOVE THIS TIME WITH HER.

Body morphingWeight gain is 15 lbs. Last time I worked at my retail job, I had to lean over and pick something up off the floor. Instead of bending over, I have to slide one leg out behind me and squat down…and in doing so I tripped one of the other associates! Whoopsies! #bigbellydangers

Sexy stuff!  My back has been hurting if I’m sitting in a chair too long but I’m feeling great otherwise.

Food drama: None, especially when I keep my dinners very small.  It helps BIG TIME to keep any food or water from sloshing back up when I lay down to sleep.

Exercising? What is this nonsense called exercise?

To Dos: I haven’t been DIYing this week because it’s been too chilly to paint outside, but Hubs and I made tons of progress at our house last weekend. We sorted and filed paperwork, put away boxes and cleaned. Before the madness was weighing so heavily on me, but now the house feels like home.

We didn’t pick out a carseat yet…we need to get on that.

And randomly: We had a doctor’s appointment yesterday and got to see Baby on the ultrasound. They said she’s “petite” but still in the healthy range for weight. Hubs and I were both small babies so they told us not to be concerned.

And she has lots of hair!  Cauuuuuuute!

I snatched up a nursing bra on clearance at Target this week. I sure hope it fits in a few months. I plan to pick up a few nursing tanks and loads of lady business pads too on my next trip out. Might as well stock up now when I have the time, right?

On that note, happy Valentine’s Day?

Home Sweat Home

More nursery tweaking!

Everything in the new house is in dire need of deep cleaning and the floor vent in the nursery was no exception.

There was even a little nest/web of some sort on the underside…perfect for bringing a new baby home to, right? Also, it was cream colored and scuffed up, which was not sexy.

I pulled it out and gave it a good scrubbing in the sink. My favorite DIY queens, Sherry and Katie, are big fans of Rustoleum’s Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint.  So when MamaP was in town, I took the plunge and grabbed a can while we were shopping at Home Depot. The weather has been pretty wonderful so two weekends ago, I got to transforming this ugly bugger.

Tips on spray painting: Use outside where it’s nice and ventilated. Shake product well and hold spray can about 8-10″ away from the object, making thin overlapping passes. You  are promised the perfect coverage if you are a little patient and plan to do several coats, instead of globbing it all on at once. No drips! Let it fully cure before bringing it inside.

It’s the easiest project ever. I know it’s quite a bit darker than the floors themselves, but I thought it would be better to go this route than try to “match” the brown in the floors.

Pretty, huh?

Don’t fret, the quarter round is on our list of To Dos (for the whole house, actually). Hopefully we’ll get to it before the baby comes?

On to more tweaks first though (sorry, this is an old picture) but…

I removed that crappy mirror. I’d like to paint the doors but I’m still waffling on the color.

The painter tape is still there though. *sigh* I need to get a ladder to take it off. One of these days…

And lastly, we added a starburst mirror to that small patch of wall between the closet door and the door to the nursery.

It was a clearance score from Pier1 years ago, that lived in our first house’s laundry room. I thought it was a nice touch of glam for Baby Girl’s room. Plus, it was FREE. Can’t get more glamorous than that!

I just started another nursery project this week..can you guess what it is?

I hope it turns out cute because it’s a lot of work that I don’t plan on redoing, like ever.

Still left To Do:

  • hang curtains
  • caulk the gap-py trim
  • install quarter round (shudder)
  • paint doors
  • add art
  • do a complete closet makeover (!)
  • get new lighting

Doubt we’ll get it all done, but progress is still progress!

Friday Tidbits

Hubs carrying around 30 lbs of sympathy baby weight at our birthing class last night – isn’t he cute?

Btw, how did I not know that the last stage of labor is to deliver the placenta? What have I gotten myself into?

Enough questions for one day, have a great weekend everyone!

Baby Bump Update

Now that it’s finally official – I’m growing a human – I’m sure you can’t wait to be inundated with all things baby.  Should we let the nonsense and self-indulgence begin?

Main scoop: I feel like a whole new person compared to last week! I’m sleeping a lot, but everything is going smoothly. I’m so thankful! Admittedly, I still get cranky/irritable sporadically, but it’s nothing like the sad feelings I was having a week ago.

(Please pretend I had done something useful with my bedhead hair)

I’m sporting new maternity clothes from my dear friends Tai and Becky. They got me the tank top and leggings (they are soooo cozy), plus two more shirts! and a massage! and a shopping spree to Sephora! How the heck I got so lucky to have them as friends, I’ll never know!

The Science: Baby Center recap – 30 weeks. She’s the size of a cabbage, which reminds me of the 80’s Cabbage Patch dolls. Remember those? Of course I had the copycat generic version, the Pumpkin Patch doll. Pumpkins are way cuter anyhow, so I’m trying not to feel bad.

Body morphingWeight gain is 13.5lbs. People feel comfortable enough now asking when I’m due and commenting on my belly. Because, whoa, it looks like this:

Sexy stuff!  The pooing is back on track, folks! You have no idea how empowering this is.

Food drama: None! Hubs has been crafting up the most amazing meals lately. Fish tacos, Mediterranean salad, fruit dip…man, I love that guy.

Exercising? I went on my first run in weeks with my track kids. We ran super slow for 25 minutes, with a break in the middle to do dynamic stretching drills so it was nice and easy. I loved being back out there! I doubt I’ll be making it a habit though because my pelvis feels too heavy for regular running. My friend Megs sent me prenatal yoga and I’m going to try it this weekend – can’t wait!

To Dos: I’m trying to make progress on the nursery but it’s slow going. We probably should focus more on getting a car seat and other essentials first just in case this little one surprises us by showing up to the Real World early. Maybe Hubs and I will have a date this weekend with Amazon and get those ordered.

And randomly: Look at this massive box of hand-me down baby clothes that my Aunt sent all the way from Texas!

SCORE!!!

Also, a baby shower is in the works to celebrate the Bump and I:

Awwww.

And finally…we are taking our first birthing class tonight. They told me to bring two pillows and blanket. I hope Hubs doesn’t faint and I don’t accidentally fall asleep.

Raves & Faves: JANUARY

Here is my Top 7 (yes, 7) list of January loves. In other words, another chance to List thing-ys. *claps*

1. For a steal, I picked up these running tights from Kohls (using Kohls cash and a coupon, ahhh yeah).

Ironically, I’ve been doing very little running in them. I wear them to coach in and I’m hoping they will still fit post-baby. Plus, they were on “the list” of needs from this post so I feel somewhat justified buying workout clothes even though fighting to get my shoes on makes me sweat these days.

2. Baby Girl strutted around showing off for Grandma one night! Cauuuute.

3. Remember when my sister-in-law and brother-in-law sent us this baby care package?

Well, we baked up that jar full of amazingness one Sunday morning at our new house and my life was forever changed. They are Cranberry Hooty Creeks and I hooted about them for days. Days!!!

4. My hubs. I know it’s sappy (and a repeat) but I can’t help it.

He so crazy, I think I want to have his baby. (Turns out, I am!)

5. Maternity pants. Praise the holy awesomeness that is the secret stretchy waistband. I pull them up to my boobs and head out!

6. We were blessed with so many thoughtful baby care packages this month, it’s hard to even accept without ugly cries and belly pats. This little sweetie is so incredibly spoiled – and so are we!

7. Obviously our new floors have to get a mention. They are so pretty and cost us a crap load of money. I want to pet them.

(Of course our little crib makes those floors look even more delicious).

January sprinted by me without the decency of a hello and the month of mushy love is in full effect!

I’m just gonna say it, I love you guys.

January Raves & Faves 2010? How about revisiting January Raves & Faves 2011? No? Ok, I didn’t think you would.

Friday Tidbits

When MamaP was visiting, she came with me to get my glucose test done. Basically how it works is you fast overnight and then drink an entire bottle of their official glucose drink (in less than 5 minutes, so no sipping!), then you get your blood drawn exactly one hour after finishing the last drop. I picked the orange flavor, I have no idea why.

It started out rough because Hubs had crafted up a delicious breakfast for MamaP with fresh roasted coffee, a bacon and onion scramble, and a homemade pumpkin scone, while I sat patiently waiting for her to finish, twitching with food envy.

No one enjoys getting their blood drawn, but I’m lucky because they usually have an easy time finding a vein – making the blood draw quick and as painless as you could hope for. But, a few weeks into my pregnancy, I had gone in for a routine blood draw so they could check some levels and that time it HURT. It burned and stung and I bruised up afterward. Needless to say, I’m always a little anxious when I go in, worried I might get “stuck” with the same person that caused me so much unpleasantness.

Luckily, I got a guy that had done a great job with me before and this time was no different. I was so relieved! I was in and out in less than 2 minutes. I marched out to the waiting room and announced to MamaP “He was a good prick!”

Not normally one for having a loss for words, MamaP stared at me stunned.

“I mean, he was a good stick?”

MamaP started to giggle.

The guy called out from the back room to thank me for clarifying and we got the hell out of there before I could die of embarrassment. I blame the fasting!

I hope you have a happy weekend and don’t say anything that makes an entire waiting room and hospital staff uncomfortable.
