Get In My Belly: Green Smoothie

Hubs and I are still doing the “Salad Challenge”, a New Year’s resolution he made a few years ago to get more good-for-you-stuff into our bodies. We’ve been keeping it up because frankly, it works for us. But for a few long weeks in my first trimester, I could barely stomach anything – especially a spinach salad. BLECH. Oh the guilt I felt that I stopped eating spinach when my growing baby needed it most…so I switched to spinach smoothies. Seriously, just try it. You’ll be surprised at what a treat it is!


  • 1/2 frozen banana, sliced
  • 1/2 c yogurt (any type really – we like Chobani)
  • a big wad of spinach
  • just a little milk or juice to thin it out and make it easier to blend

**You can add-lib, anything really goes and the measurements are far from exact. Try with soy milk or add frozen berries (it might turn the smoothie an unappealing color, but it’ll still taste awesome!).

**This is a great way to use up those past-prime bananas too. I just slice them up and stick them in the freezer.


  1. Blend everything together.
  2. Drink right away, otherwise it’ll separate.
  3. Feel smug about all of those vitamins you just ingested, obviously.

  1. thecandace is correct. It is yummy. I just have to get back to the store and get some spinach and yogurt because I have frozen bananas. About 14. My blender isn’t that powerful so I chop everything up before blending. Enjoy. lv mamap

  3. I hope you’re eating that with a big piece of peanut-buttery toast….just call me if you need tips to fatten up….the baby I mean. 😉 Only teasing, but you’ve inspired me. I will try adding spinach and get my green on! Way to go with getting Baby Girl all those yummy nutrients! I hope you are getting a little more rest with that tricky little girl. I just saw the other post and that must have been very scary! I’m thinking of you guys and so relieved her little heart is perfect and will be ready to run with Mom and hike those mountains with you both in no time. I’m sending lots of fatten-up-vibes to her before she makes her brave debut! And, stay strong and confident….you’re entering the final mile or two of the marathon. Keep going forward and breathe….the labor is the 0.2 that you already know so much about. You can do it and you will do great! Love!!!

  4. These are delish. It’s a little hard to get motivated to make them during the winter, but now that it’s warming up they are a welcome morning snack.
